The COVID Mask Design & Cover Model contest encourages mask wearing to stop the spread of coronavirus, brings the creative talent of African American fashion professionals to the forefront, and offers participants a vehicle for leaving their mark in history via the “COVID Mask” collectible coffee table book.

DEADLINE FOR ENTRY MARCH 1, 2021

During the Mask Parade Show on Friday, December 18, 2020, Patricia Anyasodor was announced as the Cover Model for the COVID Mask collectible coffee table book. For Black Fashion Career Day, a student edition of the contest is being offered. 

One student modeling a custom-designed fashion mask will be selected to be the feature model for the section of the historic book dedicated to students.

The winner will be announced on Friday, March 26, 2021 during the career day activities.

Individuals that are not entering the contest also have the opportunity to leave their mark in time. Their thoughts about this challenging yet historic time may be shared in the COVID Mask collectible book for the world to read in years, decades and centuries to come.

Submissions of 50 words or less that do not contain profanity or disparaging remarks of any kind will be accepted.
Funds raised from this initiative will support the BFW Foundation COVID Fund that is being used to help black fashion-preneurs navigate the COVID health, economic and social crisis.

Mask Contest Parameters

  • No entry fee or purchase is required to enter or win the contest. Purchasing an event ticket will not increase ability to win the competition.
  • Contest Period: February 1, 2021 to March 1, 2021.
  • Entrant must be 18 years of age or have a sponsor that is 18 years of age or older at the time of entry and of the African diaspora (Black, African American, Pan-African).
  • One entry per person, per household, or email address.
  • Photos should be in color, with only one person in the photo, in .jpg format and not exceed 100 MB in size. Bust up frontal, left and right side profile views should be submitted via the official event page  www.blackfashionworld.org/maskcovermodel.
  • Entry must be an original work.
  • Three (3) grand prize runner ups will be selected between March 2, 2021 and March 20, 2021.
  • Runner ups will be notified by email or phone by March 22, 2021.
  • Grand prize runner ups will be invited to be a part of the Black Fashion Career Day virtual event scheduled for Friday, March 26, 2021 at 12 PM EST and Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 10 AM EST.  The grand prize winner will be announced during this event and will be the feature model for the section of the historic book dedicated to students.
  • Contestants should follow all social distancing rules while capturing images to submit their entry for the contest.
  • Entrant may share photos on social channels with the following tags – #MASKPARADE #MASKCOVERMODEL @BFWFOUNDATION. Doing so has no effect on the judging criteria and will not increase ability to win the competition.
  • The model for the picture does not have to be the designer of the mask being worn in the photos submitted for entry to the competition.

Eligibility

The COVID MASK DESIGN & COVER MODEL CONTEST is open to people having origins in any of the black racial groups of Africa (Black, African American, Pan-African) who are legal residents of the fifty (50) United States, the District of Columbia, territories of the United States, and residents of countries located outside of the United States.

Employees, board members, and/or volunteers of the Black Fashion World Foundation and any of their immediate family members are not eligible.

The COVID MASK DESIGN & COVER MODEL CONTEST is subject to all applicable federal, state, county, province, territory and local laws and regulations and is void where prohibited.

BFW Foundation reserves the right to amend, change or add to these Terms and Conditions at any time, in its sole discretion.

Dubbed as a Lifestyle Architect, Etu is the mark of the fashion cognoscenti and is known by his signature purple bottoms. Emoting his slogan, The Republic of Style, his designs have graced the pages of German Vogue; Harper’s Bazaar; Spanish Marie Claire; Essence; GQ; In Style (UK); Ebony (30 Leaders of the Future) and Black Enterprise. Celebrities who have donned Etu’s designs include Halle Berry; Solange Knowles; Sharon Stone; Queen Latifah; Cynthia Bailey; the late Aretha Franklin; Michael B. Jordan; Eric Benet, and the late John Singleton to name a few. His Solesville Foundation specializes in global shoe drives and distribution throughout New York; New Jersey; Atlanta; South Carolina; Africa and the Caribbean.

Maggy has “created the unimaginable” featuring fashions biggest names, from Christian Siriano; Amsale Aberra; Korto Momolu to Betsey Johnson. With more than 20 years in the event planning, public relations, and marketing industry, Maggy draws people to brands, causes, events, and ideas, by weaving in her certain “je ne sais quoi”.  

An award-winning creative director for clients like CW Television; Congressional Black Caucus; Luke’s Wings; Becky’s Fund; she has executed international & national campaigns, music videos, commercials, and campaigns with Budweiser, Planters Peanuts, NBA, Stella Artois, and more.  She has been instrumental in creating the vision for a plethora of brands, productions, designers, and artists including CW Television; Nordstrom; Saks Fifth Avenue; Fox 5, and more. A Professor in the Fashion Design Fine Arts Department at Bowie State, she is also on the executive board of Fashion Group International New York, DC chapter, and an advisory board member for DC Fashion Foundation Macy’s Fashion Incubator.

Dale Welcome Miller

Fashion Stylist | Makeup Artist

Fashion Stylist and Makeup Artist Dale Fereda has been a quintessential part of the beauty, fashion, and modeling industry, for well over 25 years.  Serving as a Beauty Director, Trainer, and Stylist for Millie Lewis Models & Talent and The American Modeling & Talent Convention, Dale is known for having worked with photographers from around the world; from Charleston, SC to New York, New York, and Australia.

Showcasing her talent through countless beauty pageants and modeling competitions, her esteemed portfolio of clientele includes Teen Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Seventeen, and Esquire magazines as well as Nascar.

While serving as President of The Kecia E. Miller Breast Cancer Foundation, Dale headed the organization’s annual Garden Party Fashion Shows.  She hosted her weekly TV segment, MakeOver Monday, on ABC News WCIV Channel 4, and as an exceptional actress and singer, Dale is currently developing her own production company.

 

 

Janice Lawrence-Clarke

Janice Lawrence-Clarke is the President and Creative Director of JLC Productions, a fashion presentation company, a sought-after host, MC, and Founder of Caribbean American Fashion Exchange™ (CAFÉ).  CAFÉ is a program aimed at joining fashion design talent and U.S. markets.  Janice established the CAFE™ Scholarship Fund at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New.

A veteran of the fashion industry, Janice began her career as a runway and illustration model, prior to completing her degree in Fashion Buying & Merchandising at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology.  An international fashion consultant, Lawrence-Clarke was recently engaged in a consultancy for the Development of a Strategic Plan for the Fashion Industry of Trinidad and Tobago, with the Trinidad and Tobago Coalition of Services Industries, a division of the Ministry of Trade Industry and Investment.

The Black Fashion World Foundation is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that was established to move the barriers that often stymie black fashion entrepreneurs. All donations are fully tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
